About the artists Victoria's Vintage Vixen, Vivian Vanderpuss, has been dazzling audiences for 7 years. Blending music from the past with pop culture (also from the past) she creates camp-tastic numbers, chock-a-block with big hair and glamour. Vivian starred on Canada's Drag Race Season 3, stealing the hearts of the nation and almost the crown. Wig Wizard, cat mom and non-sequitur lover Vivian is sure to leave you wondering, "How did I get here and did I need to buy this much Tupperware?" British import Ket Bush is Victoria's smartest dumbass: 50% class, 50% crass and 69% bad at math. Ket is a founding member of drag/theatre collective Drag in Concept, and is Intrepid Theatre's 2024 OUTStages Artist-In-Residence. Although Ket is not even three years old, her creator (Louie Lang Norman)'s live art practice prior to starting drag has seen him perform solo shows at international performance festivals in the United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland. About the artist Hilary Fillier (She/Her) is a performer, playwright and storyteller living and working on the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. A graduate of the University of British Columbia BFA Acting Program, she is passionate about creating unique and quirky characters that are full of heart. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, they are the author of thirteen books, the creator of four films, six stage shows, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity, family, class, and queer liberation, but always with a generous heart, and a quick wit. Ivan's stories manage to handle both the hilarious and the historical with reverence and compassion, and remind us all of our own fallible and imperfect humanity, while at the same time inspiring us to change the world. Join us for the first showcase of the 2025 Queer Youth Project! The Queer Youth Project is a mentorship and development program for queer youth artists between the ages of 16-21, and happens alongside our OUTstages Queer Theatre Festival. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop a short performance piece in the genre of their choosing, with mentorship provided by Intrepid Theatre, studio time for performance development, networking opportunities during that year’s OUTstages Festival, and a showcase during OUTstages. This is a paid opportunity for young queer artists, with the goal to support the creation of new work in our local queer community while providing development support for young artists. Saturn, a wandering musician cursed to be alone, ventures through the nine circles of hell to find his estranged brother. As he brings the audience along for the ride, he is forced to confront both literal and metaphorical demons— and the childhood that haunts him as he descends. In this workshop presentation, Ciarán Volke explores the relationship between ambition, loneliness, and the people we leave behind. This project had its first phase in the 2021 OUTStages Residency, and has since gone through several metamorphoses. In The Goldberg Variations, Canadian performance artist Clayton Lee freely references and entangles queer diasporic sexuality and aesthetics with classical music (Johann Sebastian Bach) and professional wrestling (Bill Goldberg). From a late night cabaret with Philadelphia’s Bearded Ladies to the grand proscenium of NYU Skirball Center in New York City to the iconic Walker Court at the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Goldberg Variations is an ever-evolving performance project that is re-imagined and adapted for every space. Using deadpan humour, generosity, and a low-vibrating mischievousness to facilitate and indulge the “what-ifs” of the live encounter, Clayton guides the audience through his sexual history while conjuring and perhaps manifesting new fantasies at the exact same time. The Goldberg Variations is an unhinged and reckless deep dive into power dynamics, sexual desire, Domination/submission, heartbreak, vulnerability, tenderness, and the tensions that exist within. Join Louie Lang Norman for a workshop on formal experimentation in performance art. Starting with a relaxed seminar on avant-garde performance practices of the 20th Century, we will then create our own reperformances of classic performance art scores, before exploring how we can apply these methodologies to make space for experimentation within our own art practices. This workshop is aimed towards performers, artists and performance writers working in live media from across disciplines – from cabaret artists, to poets, to visual artists, to composers – who desire to be formally innovative, disruptive or just plain silly in their practice. Originally from the UK, Louie has presented solo shows and performance installations at international performance festivals in Europe (DISKURS, Germany 2018, SPILL Festival of Performance, UK 2018; INKONST, Sweden 2019), and was a finalist for Unlimited’s Main Commission Award in 2020. Louie’s forthcoming scholarly chapter on fan performances is anthologised in Theatre Fandom, University of Iowa Press (2025), and he is the equally proud and ashamed human behind the locally tolerated drag queen Ket Bush.

About the artists Victoria's Vintage Vixen, Vivian Vanderpuss, has been dazzling audiences for 7 years. Blending music from the past with pop culture (also from the past) she creates camp-tastic numbers, chock-a-block with big hair and glamour. Vivian starred on Canada's Drag Race Season 3, stealing the hearts of the nation and almost the crown. Wig Wizard, cat mom and non-sequitur lover Vivian is sure to leave you wondering, "How did I get here and did I need to buy this much Tupperware?" British import Ket Bush is Victoria's smartest dumbass: 50% class, 50% crass and 69% bad at math. About the artist Hilary Fillier (She/Her) is a performer, playwright and storyteller living and working on the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. A graduate of the University of British Columbia BFA Acting Program, she is passionate about creating unique and quirky characters that are full of heart. Her inaugural solo production, “ParaNorma PI”, premiered at the 2023 Edmonton Fringe Festival and was awarded the Artistic Risk Award at the 2023 Vancouver Fringe Festival. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity, family, class, and queer liberation, but always with a generous heart, and a quick wit. Ivan's stories manage to handle both the hilarious and the historical with reverence and compassion, and remind us all of our own fallible and imperfect humanity, while at the same time inspiring us to change the world. Join us for the first showcase of the 2025 Queer Youth Project! The Queer Youth Project is a mentorship and development program for queer youth artists between the ages of 16-21, and happens alongside our OUTstages Queer Theatre Festival. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop a short performance piece in the genre of their choosing, with mentorship provided by Intrepid Theatre, studio time for performance development, networking opportunities during that year’s OUTstages Festival, and a showcase during OUTstages. This is a paid opportunity for young queer artists, with the goal to support the creation of new work in our local queer community while providing development support for young artists. Saturn, a wandering musician cursed to be alone, ventures through the nine circles of hell to find his estranged brother. As he brings the audience along for the ride, he is forced to confront both literal and metaphorical demons— and the childhood that haunts him as he descends. In this workshop presentation, Ciarán Volke explores the relationship between ambition, loneliness, and the people we leave behind. This project had its first phase in the 2021 OUTStages Residency, and has since gone through several metamorphoses. In The Goldberg Variations, Canadian performance artist Clayton Lee freely references and entangles queer diasporic sexuality and aesthetics with classical music (Johann Sebastian Bach) and professional wrestling (Bill Goldberg). From a late night cabaret with Philadelphia’s Bearded Ladies to the grand proscenium of NYU Skirball Center in New York City to the iconic Walker Court at the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Goldberg Variations is an ever-evolving performance project that is re-imagined and adapted for every space. Using deadpan humour, generosity, and a low-vibrating mischievousness to facilitate and indulge the “what-ifs” of the live encounter, Clayton guides the audience through his sexual history while conjuring and perhaps manifesting new fantasies at the exact same time. The Goldberg Variations is an unhinged and reckless deep dive into power dynamics, sexual desire, Domination/submission, heartbreak, vulnerability, tenderness, and the tensions that exist within. About the artist Clayton Lee is a Canadian curator, producer, and performance artist. He is currently the Artistic Director of Fierce Festival in Birmingham, UK. Often situating his work within theatrical contexts, previous performances include Ways of Being, co-created with Michael Rubenfeld, at FOLDA and The Kick and Push Festival; and (◕‿◕✿) at The Performance Arcade in Wellington, New Zealand and Chapter’s EXPERIMENTICA in Cardiff, Wales. Join Louie Lang Norman for a workshop on formal experimentation in performance art. Starting with a relaxed seminar on avant-garde performance practices of the 20th Century, we will then create our own reperformances of classic performance art scores, before exploring how we can apply these methodologies to make space for experimentation within our own art practices. This workshop is aimed towards performers, artists and performance writers working in live media from across disciplines – from cabaret artists, to poets, to visual artists, to composers – who desire to be formally innovative, disruptive or just plain silly in their practice.
