Reclaimed! The Woodsical

As a derelict house is prepped for demolition, foreman “Demo" Dan hurries his ragtag crew of labourers under the deadline of a demanding developer. He has his hands full ducking civic activists and jumping through hoops and loopholes. Meanwhile, his eco-conscious foreman Adam Lovegrove – lead singer of a ‘wood n’ roll’ cover band the Rolling Stumps – marches to his own beat. When he meets Alexa, the head of a local heritage society, the two devise a plan to halt the wrecking ball and try to save the home – and maybe the world – from ending up in the trash.

This enviro-musical centers on our planet’s most reusable, regenerative and widely-used building material – wood — and features parody-oke style " wood n' roll " tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

"A true smash musical performance — with actual smashing!" – Smash City Chronicles

"Reclaimed! satirizes modern redevelopment and North American throwaway culture. From forest to landfill, the audience learns about a single plank of wood as it’s harvested, milled, built with and disposed of. This family-friendly production will make you rethink how we use and reuse wood and best of all, have you humming along to popular parodied “wood n’ roll” tunes. – K-R-UD Rubble Radio

"If you love singing and love wood, you’ll love Reclaimed! – Rolling Stump Magazine

About the Artist

PETER WORDEN is a Victoria‑based writer and first‑time musical theatre playwright. His creative work spans community art projects in printmaking, improv and 'garbage' art. He spent five years deconstructing buildings across the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, salvaging old‑growth fir and cedar and sparking the creation of ditties to pass the time while working.

HAILEY CHRISTIE-HOYLE is a musical theatre artist, dramaturg, director, choreographer, and performer from Revelstoke, BC. Since graduating from Sheridan College’s Music Theatre program in 2022 she has worked in theatres across the country as a performer and creative team member. Her work is informed by her connection to nature, inspiring stories that explore the rhythms of the natural world, cycles of growth and renewal, and the ways humans relate to and care for their environment. Select recent credits include Associate Choreographer on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Chemainus Theatre Festival), performer in On Native Land (Urban Ink), and Assistant Director on Labyrinth (Caravan Farm Theatre).
