The latest and most inventive work from Katie-Ellen Humphries (CBC’s The Debaters), the comedian Brent Butt calls “hilarious and original.” The seasoned performer brings their full breadth of comic talents to this show in an imaginative blend of standup, sketch, storytelling and multi-media.

The show marks a return for Humphries, not just to their beloved hometown, but also to the creative, multifaceted performance style they first learned as a member of Victoria’s award-winning (often madcap) theatre cabaret Atomic Vaudeville.

Among other things, the show sharply skewers modern “hustle culture”. With their signature wit, creative command of language and powerful stage presence, Humphries takes sharp satirical aim at the seemingly endless modern messaging that urges us all to constantly OPTIMIZE.

In what feels like ceaselessly challenging times, "Sunglasses on a Dog: A (Cautiously) Optimistic Comedy" invites audiences to be deliberately unproductive, together, to radically anti-isolate and most of all to share a laugh (or a few dozen).

About the Artist

Creator of the Fringe hit "No Worries If Not" (Critic’s Choice), founding member of the sketch group "The Lady Show" (Pick of the Fringe) and named “Best Comedian” by The Georgia Straight, Katie-Ellen Humphries is an act you don’t want to miss.

A Victoria native with deep ties to the place she will always consider home, Katie-Ellen is thrilled to debut their latest work with Intrepid Theatre. With a sensibility that falls somewhere between the library and the locker-room, this performer has become a favourite of audiences across Canada, including regular appearances on CBC Radio’s "The Debaters", where they have worked as a writer and Associate Producer, as well as appearances on CBC Television, CTV, APTN and OUT-TV.

Katie-Ellen is also a 3-time Canadian National Open Water 5k Swimming Champion. That’s unrelated to theatre, but it explains the shoulders.
