Manaadjia
A work-in-development showing

Manaadjia means ‘to take care of our people for a long time in Anishinaabemowin. Rebecca Hass (Métis, English, German) explores the bridge between her colonial world of opera singing and the traditions of her Métis ancestors in this show in development. The Métis tradition of visiting led to many family parties in her childhood, where Rebecca picked up the guitar and sang folk songs while her family step danced, played the spoons and sang a long. On those nights, filled with laughter, many a hunting and fishing story was told, and some of them even true. In this show Rebecca seeks to remind us all that songs and stories are a living tradition that can revitalize the ancestral knowledge in each of us. With drum, guitar, voice and inspired by traditional teachings from her Elders, she invites you to join her for a good hearted, old fashioned Métis kitchen party.
